Yard Waste Disposal Facility (Brush Site)

The Utility District maintains a facility that allows Cape Royale residents a means to dispose of waste that is produced when maintaining yards.  This includes grass clippings, leaves, pine needles, shrubbery clippings, and small limbs.  This type of material cannot be burned within the Cape, so we provide the Brush Site as an alternative to burning.

We allow large household items to be unloaded behind the front fence at the Brush Site.  These items are then carried outside of the Cape by a paid contractor for disposal or recycling.  We keep dumpsters at this facility for disposal of cardboard boxes (flattened), small household items, and the bagged grass, leaves, etc.

We are transitioning from the use of a wood chipper to a large trailer for the limbs and branches.  The District’s old backhoe has been outfitted with a “thumb” on the bucket that can be used to pick up branches and drop them in the trailer.  This is being done for safety reasons as well as an attempt to control costs.  Ten loads in the new trailer is cheaper than having one dumpster hauled away.

The following is a list of items that we CANNOT accept at the Brush Site:

Tires, used motor oil, old batteries (the County compactor is equipped to handle these items)

Loose clippings and leaves (please bag these and place them in the dumpster)

Tree trunks or limbs that are longer than 12 feet and greater than 6 inches in diameter

Construction or demolition debris (lumber, drywall, shingles, flashing, etc)

Land clearing debris

Household garbage (this, and only this, should go in the separate facility by the tennis courts)

Hazardous or noxious waste, including medical wastes, dead animals, or fish

Paint cans that still contain liquid

Over the past several months, we have had a significant increase in dumping by contractors (builders and land clearing).  This facility is clearly marked by a sign that states that the Brush Site is for RESIDENTS ONLY.  Please inform any contractor hired that debris from these jobs must be disposed of offsite.  The result of this misuse is increased costs which must be added to your monthly water bill.  If you hire a yard maintenance contractor to keep your lawn, we will allow your contractor to use the Brush Site with the condition that you have filed a Lawn Caretaker Agreement with our office.  This form can be obtained at the District office or downloaded from the “Calendar” page of this website.  Any contractor that does not appear on the list of authorized caretakers will be turned away.
